Erik Plöen (1925 - 2004) was a well known Norwegian potter He set up his own pottery in 1946 in Hedmark just after the Occupation. The famous architect Eric Herløw included much of Plön's work in the Paris exhibition "Formes Scandinaves" in 1958. Erik Ploen won the Lunning Prize and did a stint in the US as a visiting professor at the Universtity of Chicago. The Lunning Prize was instituted by Frederik Lunning, owner of the New York agency for Georg Jensen. The prize was awarded to eminent Scandinavian designers, two each year, from 1951 to 1970. The recipients were selected by a group of peers from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The Lunning Prize and its recipients were instrumental in establishing the concept and profile of Scandinavian Design, both at home and abroad, during this vital period.

Erik Ploen devised a series of unique glazes that have become his trademark. He did everything himself in his shop: working, throwing and sculpting the clay, and the firing and the glazing.

The turquoise interior glaze of this piece is an Erik Ploen trademark. This piece is in mint condition, no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs, the white seen in photos is reflection from window. A wonderful piece to add to Scandinavian or Contemporary Design, actually will look beautiful in any setting. A Brilliant Piece!

I have seen pieces of Erik Ploen bring as much as $3000.00. Wonderful addition to mid century collections.

Thank you for visiting my shop,

My items are vintage and have had previous owners. Because of the age of certain items, there may be visible wear and use and I will do my best to describe these to you. I will never sell an item in poor condition.

Shipping from United States

I try to absorb some of the shipping cost on items which are very costly to ship, so I usually end up paying some of the shipping costs out of my shop's "piggy bank". Doing this insures I may offer my items at reasonable prices without building in shipping costs.
I usually ship the same day I get your order, at the most it is two days. I insure every package I ship, with the exception, the item purchased is $10.00 or less. I take great care in making sure your purchase arrives safely and quickly.
